Late Night Laughs

Cache Valley seems to be stretching out of its usual comfort zone with some late night comedy that can be enjoyed over zesty barbeque. Smokin’ Blues is a new barbeque restaurant filled with everything a good ‘ole southern barbeque comes with; they even have a wide variety in brews of root beer.

The fun starts when you are ushered into a room set up almost like a dining hall, all of the tables are long and skinny facing towards a stage at the far end of the room. The stage, set up with tall chairs and microphones, has a yellow padded wall behind the show. Be prepared to sit down, eat some food, and listen to some comedians from around the globe. On this particular night, we were in for three separate comedians: Spencer King, Brad Boner, and Richard Stockton.

From jokes about awkwardness to “going a little too far” with a joke, the night was unlike anything I have experienced in Logan in my four years of living in the valley. Richard Stockton, a 61 year-old comedian from California was the headliner. Describing himself as a “hippie”, he played the banjo and acoustic guitar, serenading the audience with funny songs.

It is something everyone should try while they are in town for both the food and fun. A warm atmosphere is great for dinner with the family and if you are looking for a fun date idea in Logan, consider the comedy show! A forewarning for families: some of the content in the sketches may not be appropriate for children. A risk you take when going to a comedy show.
