College students and families alike can enjoy one place in Cache Valley on any day of the week. The Cache Valley Fun Park is the entertainment hub of Logan, bringing activities for all ages. Bowling, laser tag, arcades, roller-skating, country dancing, and the list goes on.

The Fun Park has some great deals for families and poor college students with $2.00 Tuesdays and $1.50 bowling on Thursday nights. Cosmic bowling (pictured above) in “The Gutter” is not your everyday bowling; it is full of black lighting and fun, upbeat music. Bowling lanes and balls glowing in the lights, illuminating teeth from happy smiles, and groups of college students surround the place. Rentals for shoes are available, you even have the chance to buy your own bowling shoes or ball. Even next to the bowling alley are billiards if you are looking for a change of pace, welcoming and open for any amount of people.

In the other section of the Fun Park you will find the laser tag area, arcades, and roller-skating rink. Perfect for birthday parties, the Fun Park will even cater to your children’s needs if you are looking for the perfect gift. The staff will provide everything you need to wish a friend of child a happy birthday. You can book a party night on their website, Cache Valley Fun Park, and everything will be ready when you get there!

The Laser tag area was recently just redone, making the area more dark and mysterious for people looking to play an intense game with their friends. Bring a group of friends or your family and you can challenge each other to who can shoot the best! Hide behind black walls and don’t fall! Just remember to wear your darkest clothes or else you might stick out like a sore thumb.

Country swing dancing night is very popular with the college crowd, especially with their $2.00 admission on Tuesday nights. Come to meet a large group of new people or dance with your friends. You are bound to have a rocking time with country music playing and hundreds of people swinging through the air.

The arcade has been newly updated, bringing in all new games for the kids to play. Tons of prizes for people to work towards that include large stuffed animals or cool toys.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Head down to the Fun Park to find out what else this treasure trove of entertainment holds for you and your friends and family. Good, clean fun is what you can rely on when you walk through the doors!

Cache Valley seems to be stretching out of its usual comfort zone with some late night comedy that can be enjoyed over zesty barbeque. Smokin’ Blues is a new barbeque restaurant filled with everything a good ‘ole southern barbeque comes with; they even have a wide variety in brews of root beer.

The fun starts when you are ushered into a room set up almost like a dining hall, all of the tables are long and skinny facing towards a stage at the far end of the room. The stage, set up with tall chairs and microphones, has a yellow padded wall behind the show. Be prepared to sit down, eat some food, and listen to some comedians from around the globe. On this particular night, we were in for three separate comedians: Spencer King, Brad Boner, and Richard Stockton.

From jokes about awkwardness to “going a little too far” with a joke, the night was unlike anything I have experienced in Logan in my four years of living in the valley. Richard Stockton, a 61 year-old comedian from California was the headliner. Describing himself as a “hippie”, he played the banjo and acoustic guitar, serenading the audience with funny songs.

It is something everyone should try while they are in town for both the food and fun. A warm atmosphere is great for dinner with the family and if you are looking for a fun date idea in Logan, consider the comedy show! A forewarning for families: some of the content in the sketches may not be appropriate for children. A risk you take when going to a comedy show.

If you would like more information about show times and comedians, give Smokin’ Blues a call at (435) 787-2233. If you just want to head there for the food, go to:

On a chilly night in Logan, the view of a stone fire pit from Main Street is a warming sight. A small family owned restaurant named “Jack’s Wood Fired Oven”, having opened just the week before Christmas 2009, sits at 256 North Main Street. A warm Tuscan color palette makes you feel at home when you first walk into the front doors.

The owner, Jack Carlisle, was working hard in the kitchen when I first arrived. When ordering, he recommended the restaurant favorite “That One Pizza” and a Jack’s Pizza original, Lyon bread. Each pizza is made with Carlisle’s family recipe pizza dough that took him and his wife two years to perfect. “We used to import our flour from Italy,” Carlisle said about when he was first making his dough. Luckily, he found a much more convenient option that tasted just as good.

The Lyon bread, which Carlisle says is their version of breadsticks, has a unique taste. Made with fresh mozzarella, provolone, and Parmesan cheeses, sprinkled with salt and olive oil, Lyon bread offers a bright new take on a well-known classic. The mixture of cheeses with the clean taste of olive oil is not overpowering or greasy. I especially enjoyed the thin crispy feel the sticks had, along with a touch of salt, bringing out the sharpness of the cheese.

“That One Pizza”, also known as margarita pizza, is the restaurant favorite for a reason. A simple staple to the pizza genre, “That One Pizza” has only three ingredients: mozzarella, fresh basil, and red sauce. Want to know the best part about it? You can taste the authenticity of the wood fire bake. A thin crust that is not overcooked hit the spot with the rest of the pizza.

Carlisle, when asked why he decided to open the restaurant, gave a simple answer. He loves to cook. He learned to cook from his mother and wanted to bring the tradition to his family. They started out having parties in their backyard, cooking for neighbors and friends. Carlisle even has his own portable fire pit he would bring to weddings and fairs.

Families and college students were coming and going as we talked to Carlisle and ate his pizza. Quick service and an affordable price to boot, Jack’s Wood Fired Oven is sure to continue through the years bringing new pizza to a city filled with bland pizza places.

There is only one place to be this Saturday in Logan, Utah: The Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

Logan is a town that bleeds blue for its Aggies and this Saturday, February 20, 2010, ESPN2 will be joining “the Hurd” of Aggie fans as they host Wichita state for the bracket-buster.

Just to give you a glimpse into the type of game the Aggies play, Utah State is currently ranked number one in three point shooting, number two in free throw shooting. The Aggies are on their way to the WAC tournament March 11th through the 13th with a winning record of 10-2 (20-6 overall). The Aggies, as of tonight, are on their 11th straight win, gunning for 12 as they host Louisiana Tech February 12, 2010. Utah State is now in the USA Today coaches poll at #38 with 3 votes.

Are you looking for a new place to take your beau or betrothed on a Friday night date? Or maybe you are just looking for somewhere to eat that you haven’t tried before? There are all of the obvious places to go like Hamilton’s, Olive Garden, and Texas Roadhouse, but if you want a place that is privy to Logan, try the not so well known, Le Nonne just off of 4th North.

Homemade Italian food that will make you swear off all the other competitors, Le Nonne has something that other date night places cannot offer. It brings a charm that you do not often find in Logan, resting in a renovated home on the side of the road, hidden under tall leaf trees, casting a green hue in the heat of a night out on the restaurant patio.

Small, quaint, and filled with the smell of Italy, Le Nonne is bringing true Italian food to Logan. It carries some dishes that will make your eyebrows raise, but your taste buds will tell you otherwise, specifically to the dish Pennette alla Pera. Pennette pasta sauteed in a creamy Gorgonzola cheese sauce with fresh pears brings a new taste to mind. Who would have thought the sweetness of the warm pears would be the perfect compliment with Gorgonzola? It is a definite must try for first timers.

Another fantastic dish to try if you are a fan of seafood is the Ravioli di Granchio. Handmade ravioli stuffed with crab meat and ricotta cheese, smothered in a cream sauce with olive oil, freshly diced tomatoes and, for an added kick, chili peppers.

If you are looking for a full three course meal, don’t hesitate with their selection of homemade cheesecake and crème brûlée.

For an added touch of class, on specific nights they have live music playing throughout the small home.

Check the website for Le Nonne to look at the rest of the menu and for music times.

Try out Logan’s newest comedy night at Club New York every Friday night.

Doors open at 7:00 PM and the laughs begin at 7:30 PM

It’s three dollars to get into the comedy show and an additional two dollars if you want to stay and dance afterward.

How do I know this is going to be good? Because it’s hosted by one of my main men, Wayne Thompson, also known as DJ Absolute. There is no other guy that can get you laughing like he can. He’s also invited me, Bailey McMurdie, to get up on stage to attempt a few laughs from the crowd.

Whether you don’t know what to do one a Friday night or are just looking for something new in Logan, hit up Club New York and check out the scene.

Logan, Utah is a lot of things to over 42,000 people living in Cache Valley... but what does this mean for you?

A small city tucked behind the Wasatch Mountains just two hours North of Salt Lake City, Utah, offers more than just milk and cheese, often for what people give Logan credit. Logan, Utah is a lot of things to over 42,000 people living in Cache Valley. It also holds a place in visitors hearts as they pass through the small, college crazy town. A small city is bustling with opportunity and adventure. A place of refuge and knowledge. A place where the people down the street are more than neighbors. Bustling with college students and full time residents, Logan shows the true beauty of small city charm.

Take a drive down historic Main Street past places such as the Tabernacle and forever loved small businesses like the “Book Table” and “The Sportsman.” Walk from first dam up into Logan Canyon during the fall season for a firework of foliage. Tour the beloved campus of Utah State University and feel the school spirit that multiplies from students. Defined by the glowing “A” on the top of the hill on Utah State University’s campus, Logan’s veins pump blue blood, supporting the “Aggies” through and through. Or maybe even attempt to “clean the sink” down at the locals’ favorite, “Angie’s”.

This blog will not just inform you about Logan, but it will inspire you to live, breath, and feel Logan. We will let you know what is going on in Logan as of late, places to visit in Cache Valley, and many of the other things that go on in Logan.

Thanks for visiting and come back when we have things running at full speed!
